Simple Swaps for Everyday Products to Save Money and Help the Environment! – Part 1
With prices increasing these days, we’re all looking for ways to save money. Fortunately, there are many easy swaps you can make to everyday products that will help you to save money and help the environment! We will post our tips as a three-part series. For now, here are 5 things you can do to save money and live more sustainably:
- Go thrifting as much as possible (clothes, furniture, appliances- many things can be found at local thrift stores.) Instead of buying things new, look for used products online- this helps to save money and avoid more things going into the landfill. You’d be surprised by what people are giving away as well! Join a local “Buy Nothing” group on social media for free items in your area.
- Use reusable cotton rounds instead of cotton balls and save approximately $3 a month.
- Make your own cleaning products- use white vinegar for multipurpose cleaning/countertops and glass (vinegar: water 1:1). You can also combine equal parts of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water in a spray bottle, add a few drops of dish soap for enhanced cleaning power, and use that to clean.
- One 8 oz. $8 jar of coconut oil can last a long time used as body lotion and leave-in hair conditioner.
- Buy dry beans instead of canned beans- they are cheaper per pound.
Ask a friend or neighbor for ideas! Chances are, many of your acquaintances have excellent tips for how they save money and use sustainable options. Keep an eye out for two more money-saving swapping posts.
